A single-storey adobe in Hacienda Santa Fe — thick walls, deep window reveals, the kind of California-modern house people fall for and then remodel the character straight out of.

So most of the work was restraint. We opened the living, dining and kitchen into one floor, but kept the ceiling height and the oversized windows doing what they were already doing, which was filling the house with light for free. The kitchen is new: custom cabinetry, a long island with seating, appliances that earn their keep. The primary suite got dual vanities, a soaking tub, a separate shower. Covered patio, pool, planting.

And we stopped there. There’s room at the back for a pool house or an ADU, and we left that decision to whoever bought it.
